Chronic Food Insecurity
Severe malnutrition and food insecurity, which mainly
affects women and children in Somalia, is complex,
challenging and driven by poverty, conflict and cyclical
climate emergencies.
Insufficient supply of therapeutic foods and other fortified foods to meet local needs; major procurement and logistical bottlenecks; and, almost no local research, innovation or financing to tackle these problems, all compound and exacerbate food insecurity and malnutrition in Somalia.
